Florida Offices Need Spring Cleanings Too!

Spring is not really a thing in most of Florida, since we enjoy endless summers all year round. But that’s no reason to skip out on spring cleaning for your office! With spring right around the corner, now is the time to dust off those deep-cleaning lists. Instead of viewing spring cleaning as a big daunting task, look at it as an opportunity to declutter and reset the office for the rest of the year.

It’s wise to start with the textiles in the office. These areas are often neglected throughout the year and need that extra attention during annual spring cleanings. Textiles refer to the various fabrics found around the office, such as furniture, curtains, and panels. Over the course of the year, dust and other allergens become embedded into the fabrics as fibers hold them in place. After the dust is ensnared, it can cause irritation for those around the office, such as itchy eyes, sneezing, and coughing. Symptoms can be worse for staff members who have preexisting conditions such as asthma. Allergens can be combated all year round with regular textile cleanings and workplace sanitizations, as both methods effectively reduce harmful allergens around the office.

Flooring is one of the biggest investments a business owner can make for their building. It can be easy for flooring in the office to become overlooked and neglected as we walk on it every day. However, management should prioritize the upkeep of flooring as it is the first thing clients, guests, and employees will notice when entering the space.

Similar to other fabrics in the office, carpet also tends to hold onto allergens, stains, and even odors. Carpet is one of the less forgiving floorings when it comes to missed cleanings, as it can take multiple passes to fully remove built-up debris. In server cases, management should consider the restorative carpet cleaning process. This treatment removes harsh stains and foul odors by using a dry carpet cleaning method to prevent future issues such as mold and mildew. Once completed, grime-stricken carpets look new once again, extending their lifespan for years to come.

Next up are tile and grout. Tile is an excellent choice as it can create a sleek and professional look in any room. Moreover, there are a variety of styles and colors to pick from, allowing the flooring to bring the room altogether. However, just like carpet, the tile and grout can be overlooked. Spring cleaning is the perfect time to examine how the tile in the building is holding up. Take note of any tiles that have staining or signs of chipping. That way they can be addressed before becoming a larger issue.

For grout, be mindful of harsh chemicals being used, as they can destroy the grout’s overall integrity. As a general rule, management should avoid employing harsh chemicals around the office entirely. Some cleaners work a little too well as the chemicals eat away at the paint and other materials. Because grout is so porous, harsh chemicals can open them up further, allowing debris and mold to thrive.

Last up is personal work areas. A tidy and organized workspace benefits employees in more ways than one. For starters, clutter can directly impact our stress and anxiety levels, raising them significantly as clutter accumulates throughout the work week. Managers should provide staff time towards the end of the workday to reset their workstations to remove desk clutter and germs. Another way to combat desk litter is to educate the team on the importance of a clean and clear workstation. This can be as simple as an email discussing how a cluttered work area can negatively impact one’s mental health.

To recap our checklist for spring cleaning, the focus should be on textiles, floors, and general office clutter. By focusing on these three aspects, germs and allergens can be remarkably reduced, creating a healthy work environment for everyone to enjoy this spring season.
